Where UAE residents can fly this weekend, this Eid and this summer, when each place is at its best, and the entry rules that catch people out at the airport.
Few places on earth sit as close to as much as the UAE does. In the time it takes to fly London to Madrid, you can be swimming with manta rays in the Maldives. A three-hour flight puts you in Tbilisi's wine bars or under the turquoise domes of Samarkand. Pack a car on Thursday night and you can be floating in an Omani wadi by Friday lunchtime.
This guide is built for residents, not tourists. For each escape you get the wow moment, the best months, a ready-made short plan and, most importantly, the steps you must complete before you fly. In 2026 almost every popular destination has added a digital form, a levy or a mandatory insurance rule that did not exist two years ago. Miss one and you can be refused boarding.
The golden rule: your visa options depend on the passport you hold, not on your UAE residence. Two people on the same flight with the same Emirates ID can face completely different rules. Every destination below links to the official government portal so you can check your own passport in two minutes.

Passport validity. Many destinations want six months left on your passport at entry. Check every family member, especially children, whose passports expire faster.
Visa by passport. Confirm the rule for each passport in your group on the official portal linked in each destination below.
Pre-arrival digital forms. The Maldives, Thailand, Indonesia, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Mauritius and Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City airport all require something to be done online before you land.
Insurance. Georgia and Zanzibar make insurance a condition of entry. Everywhere else, check whether your UAE health plan covers you abroad before assuming it does.
Your UAE residence. Your residence visa should be valid for your return, and most residents should not stay outside the UAE for more than six months (see "Protect your residency").
Flight status on the day. Regional security tensions have caused airspace closures, retimings and cancellations from UAE airports during 2026. Check your airline's app before leaving home.
Official sites only. Fake "visa" and "arrival form" websites charge for forms that are free.
Flight times below are approximate direct times from Dubai or Abu Dhabi. They vary by airline, season and routing, and 2026 airspace restrictions have lengthened some routes.

Disruption in 2026. Regional security tensions have led to temporary airspace closures, cancellations and retimings at UAE airports, especially on some regional routes. The General Civil Aviation Authority has reopened airspace quickly after closures, but schedules can change at short notice. Book flexible fares where you can, keep airline app notifications on, and check your insurance for disruption cover.
Check your UAE health plan's geographical scope. Some cover emergencies worldwide, some only regionally, and some not at all abroad.
Travel insurance and health insurance are different. Travel cover usually adds cancellation, delays, baggage and repatriation.
Georgia and Zanzibar now make insurance a legal entry condition.

The six-month rule. Most UAE residence visas are affected if you stay outside the country for more than six months. Golden Visa holders are exempt.
If you get stuck abroad. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) offers a permit for residents who have been outside the UAE for more than 180 days for a valid reason such as study, work or medical treatment. It is applied for from outside the UAE and approval is at ICP's discretion. Dubai residents apply through GDRFA Dubai.
Renew before you go. If your visa is due for renewal while you are away, sort it before you leave.
