Health Insurance is MANDATORY

All UAE residents must have health insurance. It's a legal requirement for visa issuance and renewal in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Dubai

  • Mandatory since: 2014 (Dubai Health Authority - DHA)
  • Coverage: All visa holders and their dependents
  • Sponsor responsibility: Employer must provide for employees; visa sponsor for dependents
  • Minimum coverage: Essential Benefits Plan (EBP) - AED 150,000 annual limit

Abu Dhabi

  • Mandatory since: 2008 (Department of Health - DoH)
  • Coverage: All residents in Abu Dhabi emirate
  • Sponsor responsibility: Employer or visa sponsor must provide
  • Minimum coverage: Basic scheme - AED 500,000 annual limit (higher than Dubai)
